KW Designed Solutions designed and developed our KWik-Lok closure high pressure testing vessel which is equipped with our unique KWik-Lok automated quick-acting closure. The KWik-Lok closure has been innovatively engineered as a result of our engineers working closely with our customers needs over many years. Using electrically actuated integrated tilting chocks, safely and securely locking the closure plug in position. Robust in design; providing quick and easy opening and closing functionality of the pressure vessel, at the push of a button.

Created with our existing customers in mind, the concept was driven to provide a much more compact solution, for medium to large-sized vessels, that require a quick-locking closure mechanism. The compact and slender nature of the KWik-Lok closure design allows the body and neck of the vessel to be manufactured from minimal material quantities; making manufacturing costs more competitive than other vessel types. It also ensures that no manual handling of the heavy chocks is required; they simply remain located within the plug, whilst tilting into the wall of the vessel body when actuated.

The closure remains low weight and has numerous attachment points; meaning it can be raised and lowered using a standard hoist, with a low to moderate lifting capacity. The KWik-Lok closure comes with a Plug Guidance System (PGS) for alignment with the vessel and attachment points are also included on the underside of the closure, for hanging off the Device Under Test (DUT).

Used in vertical orientation, these pressure vessels have a relatively small footprint, taking up minimal shop-floor space. If required, the vessel can be provided with its own closure handling system, which can be installed below ground level or supplied with its own structural safety enclosure.

Applications and Customer Uses

The KW Designed Solutions KWik-Lok closure pressure vessel is a popular choice for our customers within the energy and subsea industry sectors.

The ease of handling and safe and innovative quick-acting closure, provide the customer with a unique and perfectly suited design, for their in-house operating requirements.

Our KWik-Lok Closure Pressure Vessel is used for the FAT and Production Testing of:

  • Subsea Electrical Components
  • Electrical Penetrators and Sensors
  • Cable and Hose Assemblies
  • Full-Scale Buoyancy Module Testing

The unique KWik-Lok closure is favoured by many blue-chip companies in the energy sector who require a large bore pressure vessel.

KW Designed Solutions has designed and manufactured a KWik-Lok closure high pressure testing system with an internal bore of 2.5m, with a depth of 8m for the testing of full sized subsea buoyancy modules. This remains one of the largest pressure vessels of its type in the world, with such a quick and easy operating closure system.
