The next generation of an acoustic release device was tested at a simulated depth of almost 13,000 metres below sea level.
Using our 1500 bar hyperbaric pressure test chamber, the qualification testing involved controlled ramping up pressures on the acoustic device to then controlled depressurising. The device was subjected to a very high stabilised pressure for a long time, and whilst at high pressure, the crucially important release mechanism was remotely opened.
Our experienced test engineers operated the control equipment required to open the release mechanism, saving the expense of having an engineer over from France to operate the mechanical hook for the test.
This hyperbaric pressure testing is for a global developer and provider of robust and accurate maritime autonomy solutions. Their acoustic release devices are used worldwide to deploy and recover critical subsea scientific instrumentation, and they must perform for whatever harsh operating conditions they encounter.
Qualifying the new design ensures the release on the acoustic device will keep holding onto the anchor of a buoyant instrument until it is commanded to release it. In addition, a full documentation pack is provided, including a test certificate, test engineer’s report, and test chart data.
