A high pressure testing system, currently in production for a company that designs and manufactures oceanographic instruments used in deep ocean and polar region deployment.
The test system will comprise a hyperbaric pressure test chamber, automated fluid control module and temperature control system. The semi-quick acting manual chock closure plug and test chamber body recently had several NDT (Non Destructive Testing) inspection requirements undertaken, required for ASME BPVC VIII Div 3 acceptance criteria.
An approved external examiner recently applied liquid penetrant to all the exposed surfaces of the test chamber body and closure plug, with all the relevant examination documentation provided.
Other non-destructive testing required for ASME BPVC VIII Div 3 included an ultrasonic inspection, which again is conducted by an external examiner and involves transmitting high-frequency sound waves through the pressure test chamber to be able to determine any potential defects in the materials used in the construction of the test vessel.
The 700 bar (10,153 psi), high pressure testing system is designed to accurately control the pressure vessel fill and drain module along with variable and automated pressures and temperatures up to 100°C to a precise level, validating the safe operation of the advanced oceanographic instruments for harsh in-service conditions.
